Needs and criteria

The beniv (bi-pap non-invasive ventilator) is a medical device and it was still developing, so we had to adapt to the motor box and body changes.

It needs to be made with low-cost production techniques because there were foreign competitors with reasonable prices.

It’s made to be placed on the table, so it had to be compact and stable.

The montage parts should be as few as possible.

The ventilator had a 4-inch display that needed a decent user interface with a great experience. Even a patient with minimum knowledge about the medical aspects can use it easily.

The product had to be portable and be resistant to impact.

Challenges

Since there is a water heating element near the board, the container needs to be fully sealed so no humidity gets to the board. Because the product was supposed to be compact and all parts must be adequately put close to each other.

One of the great challenges of the product was making it possible for the device to work with the humidifier on or off. We came up with a mechanism for the lid to disconnect the humidity flow whenever possible.

Now, to the amazing part. The Ventilator had to pump humidified and dry air whenever needed. Most designs came with a container near them which was useless when pumping dry air. Making the device bigger than what it should be. So we came up with a solution. We made the lid symmetric, so if you remove it and turn it around, airflow disconnects from humidification and goes directly to the patient.

One of the most complex jobs for us was to fit all the parts into one compact device. All parts should be kept separately. And most important of all, since we had a water container in it, we had to make sure it’s perfectly sealed, so no humidity gets to the board.

The customized design for the touchscreen shows you everything you need. The device required a user interface that the caretaker or patient can understand. It connects to your Android/IOS device via IoT, and everything can be easily controlled. You can even monitor the patient’s health from far, far away.
